First lady Melania Trump has come under attack by the New York Times, CNN and other
media outlets during her Kenya trip for wearing a white pith helmet described by them as a " symbol of white colonial rule."
The first lady refused to take the bait, telling reporters Saturday that she had no comment on her wardrobe.
“We just completed an amazing trip — we went to Ghana, we went to Malawi, we went to Kenya, here we are in Egypt,” she said as reported by NPR. “I want to talk about my trip and not what I wear. That’s very important.”
Kenyans and Africa hands from all over the world responded quickly stating that it was a charming sign of respect by the first lady, one which sincerely appreciated by all Kenyans.
As of this evening, neither the New York Times nor CNN have have modified their negative comments which related to the specifics of her attire and to what they claim was the negative impact it would have on the perception of the United States in Kenya and in other parts of Africa.
